What is Chroma and What it Looks Like

We all know what shaders are, but in case you missed Destiny’s second April Update preview stream, Chroma is the hot new way to customize your guardian’s look. Specfically, Chroma is a new collectible material that allows you to add glowing color accents to your guardian’s weapons and armor.

For now, there are four different colors that you can add to your equipment: Red, Yellow, Blue, and White. Like other currency and materials, you can transfer any Chroma you get to any of your characters.

If you look at the above image, you can see how it works. It will light up areas of the armor that would otherwise just match your shader. Here’s how it looks on a weapon:

OK so that’s how it all works, next let’s look at how to actually get yourself some.

How to Get Chroma

OK, so now you may be asking, how do you get Chroma? Since it’s a new material being added in Destiny’s upcoming April Update, it’s going to be obtainable?via new activities releasing in said update.

The first way is through Sterling Treasure Mystery Bags.?An elaborate name for an elaborate item. Sterling Treasure Mystery Bags?are exactly what they sound like, a bag?full of loot that when used, grants you a few items at random. One of the items you could get from Sterling Treasure which can possibly drop one of the four colors for you. That’s not the only way to get Chroma though. It?can also be obtained from dismantling any pieces of the two new armor sets dropping in Destiny’s April Update. Dismantling SPEKTAR armor will give you a random colored piece while DESOLATE will grant you a single white piece.

How to Use Chroma and Remove?It

Now that you have Chroma, you might be wondering how do you even use it. It’s pretty simple actually. When you inspect?any compatible gear, there will be a specific node (like your perk nodes) that will appear. The color of the node will tell you which types can be used on that gear. Simply follow through and apply it?from that node.

Say hypothetically, though, you hate the way your equipment looks now and want to get rid of it (or just change colors). Have no fear, as you can revert your equipment back to its old looks. Simply look for the Deactiviate Chroma perk node while inspecting. There are a couple of catches to this though. It costs 100 Glimmer (OK no big deal for most people) but also, you will lose the Chroma that you originally applied forever. So be extra careful before adding anything especially because you can’t preview what it would look like.

Finally, also know that if you dismantle or infuse equipment with Chroma applied, it will be lost forever.
