Ranked from S-tier to D-tier, the ranked list of Journey Renewed Fate Fantasy characters is as follows:

These rankings are based on each character’s capabilities for efficient strategy in the current meta. Before you can earn these higher-level characters, though, those in the A and B tiers will make great placeholders to keep you going.

Meanwhile, C-tier, the lowest rank, regards those that only really have any use in the earliest stages of Journey Renewed Fate Fantasy, but quickly become redundant as the game goes on.

Keep in mind, however, that this is a personal ranking. While you should use this tier list as your go-to guide if you just want to start winning as quickly as possible, we’d also recommend trying out each character if you have the time, so you can alter these rankings to your personal preference.

S-Tier Characters

Nezha

Nezha is the highest critical damage dealer in both single-target encounters and AoE scenarios. She also has the self-pulling action bar, which allows her to act more frequently during battles. All this makes Nezha one of the top picks for any game mode, whether it’s PvE missions or PvP arenas.

Lord Erlang

Erlang Shen, also known as Lord Erlang, is a strong buffer with some excellent offensive abilities. You can make him either a secondary DPS in your team, a tanky frontliner, or a buffer unit that works in synergy with your other damage dealers. It’s recommended to pair him up with either Nezha or Sun Wukong for some really powerful combos.

Jade Vixen

Here’s the top choice for crowd control, especially in PvE dungeons. She also has some excellent buff and debuff skills that will come in very handy during tougher boss fights. But she will perform equally well during team-based PvP battles, where you can focus her abilities on disrupting the most powerful opponents.

颁丑补苍驳’贰

颁丑补苍驳’贰 is by far the best healer in the game, capable of healing all allies over time or providing quick heals to single targets. She also possesses increased defense stats, which allow her to stay alive and support her allies for prolonged periods. Lastly, one of her strongest buffs increases damage mitigation, which can be very useful during boss battles.

Six-eared Macaque

This is the strongest DPS character in the game, who excels in PvP mode, where he chops up opponents like no other. His enhanced perception and debuff skills also allow him to disrupt enemies in PvE by lowering their accuracy. Obviously, it’ll take a lot of effort to reroll for this top-tier character, which is possible via the 10x gacha set.

Tang Xuanzang

If you need a strong counter buffer-debuffer, then Tang Xuanzang would be the top choice. Tang can single-handedly stand against enemy buffers by suppressing their effects. It can be hard to master this unit, but if you place him strategically in your team, he could easily neutralize the most dangerous threats on the battlefield. So pair him up with Nezha or Zhu Bajie for some truly impressive results.

King of the Eastern Sea

Ao Guang, the Dragon King, can serve as both an attacker and as a tank. His kit includes some excellent crowd control and high burst damage abilities, which could be especially useful during summoning events. As a result, you’ll get event-specific bonuses and rewards when using this character in battles.

A-Tier Characters

Red Boy

Hong Hai’er, also known as Red Boy, is a powerful elemental damage dealer who belongs to the Fire faction. If your team is razor-focused on an aggro playstyle, then Red Boy is a must-have unit for that kind of strategy. But do note that he strongly depends on elemental synergies, or he may be showing lackluster results.

Ksitigarbha

A highly valuable support character that can sustain your entire team throughout various story stages and dungeons. In strategic battles, it’s recommended to pair him up with high damage dealers and control characters.

Yama

Yama is a powerful debuffer, reducing enemy defenses to their minimum. This comes into play when facing strong bosses, when Yama can effectively weaken their HP pool, opening opportunities for Nezha’s critical hits. However, don’t try to turn Yama into an offensive unit, as his damage isn’t on par with the top attackers.

White Dragon

This unit is mostly focused on protecting allies by granting them shields, although he’s got some good attacks, too. It’s recommended to put White Dragon in a team with supporters, as he can keep them alive for as long as needed, spamming those protective shields.

South Pole Star

South Pole Star is a very good support unit, who can enhance your team’s stats, healing, and speed of movement. You can literally add him to any team composition, and he will definitely be useful. Although he may not shine too bright in all types of battles, his buffs will work like a charm in most of them.

Princess Peacock

Here’s another highly efficient supporter, who ensures that your team performs at its best during battles by boosting the morale and stats of all allies. She’s especially effective alongside attackers, such as Nezha or Six-eared Macaque, as well as tanks, such as Lord Erlang or White Dragon.

Nine-headed Bird

One of the better AoE damage dealers is Nine-headed Bird, who can easily clear waves of enemies in PvE dungeons. This would also be a great choice for grinding resources, especially if you pair her up with a strong buffer like Lord Erlang or South Pole Star. But she’ll also need a good tank, as her own defenses are pretty weak.

Blazeheart

Damage Over Time (DoT) could be a great tool when assisting your team in defeating tough bosses. That’s where Blazeheart can do some work by inflicting Burn and Bleed effects on enemies. Eventually, the damage will stack up, turning any kind of foe into a seriously weakened version of itself.

Rosy Fairy

This Fairy-type unit offers solid healing and buff abilities, which can serve you well until you roll for Chang’E or another better supporter. Rosy Fairy is especially useful for buffing DPS and tank units, but she can’t do much damage on her own.

Vermilion Serpent

A strong alternative to any secondary DPS unit with some very good AoE skills and debuff effects. However, her elemental damage will mostly fit the Fire-type synergies, including such units as Red Boy. So keep her for a more aggressive lineup.

B-Tier Characters

Titanic Spirit

If you’re looking for a decent tank with strong debuff abilities, then Titanic Spirit fits the bill. He can stun enemies and slow them down, creating a window for your healer to revive the team. But it’ll require a hefty amount of investment to upgrade this unit if you want to use it in the late game.

Lady Spider

If you need to inflict Poison or Stun status effects on enemies, then Lady Spider would be a solid pick. However, if you want her to be really useful, she’ll require a ton of investment to ascend her to higher ranks. She’s also quite vulnerable to burst damage due to low HP, so be sure to pair her up with a quick healer.

Zhu Bajie

Zhu Bajie is a reliable tank with some offensive skills that can ensure team stability. But don’t expect him to stand firm in high-level PvP or endgame PvE, as that’s where he may struggle. But he will do just fine in early to midgame team compositions, where you need to make sure that your healers survive for as long as possible.

Sha Wujing

Here’s another decent tank and very similar to Zhu Bajie. The main reason why both of these characters are on the B-tier is due to the slower rate of their progression. They both require much more grinding before that necessary power spike happens to be able to stand against endgame threats.

Hak and Bak

This couple’s inclusion in the game compensates for trying to roll for both Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing, so you get both of these characters in one package. However, they’re still not as strong as actually having both Zhu and Sha on your team, but Hak and Bak can still do some heavy tanking, especially when paired with Sun Wukong or Tang Xuanzang.

Queen of Womenland

This cool supporter character could easily be higher on the list, but she’s way too dependent on faction synergies dictated by the Five Factions, Six Roles mechanic. This means that you’d have to put her either in the Supporter faction or a Crowd Control faction to bring her stats to solid levels.

King Silver Horn

On his own, King Silver Horn is a decent attacker, but when combined with his twin brother, King Golden Horn, they can really push the assault forward. But since it’s very hard to obtain both of them in the gacha, you’ll probably end up using either one of them, which simply doesn’t work as well.

King Golden Horn

King Golden Horn is a very similar character to King Silver Horn, and as already mentioned, together they can work wonders. However, rolling both of them in the gacha could take up lots of time and resources, which is too much of a grind, especially when there are far better options in the long run.

Snow White Mouse

One of the most overlooked mechanics in Journey Renewed: Fate Fantasy is Stealth. Snow White Mouse is great at it, making surprise attacks that can leave your opponents in PvP utterly frustrated. However, her skillset requires strong tactical understanding, which will let you effectively break enemy synergies. But it’s definitely a very niche choice.

Immortal Ruyi

You may not be able to roll Nezha early in the game, but if you get Immortal Ruyi, then you can consider yourself lucky, as he can serve as a temporary alternative for dealing increased critical damage to bosses. He’s also got lots of HP, which won’t make him a tank but a highly resilient character, for sure.

Jinzha

Although Jinzha is the older brother of Nezha, he isn’t nearly as powerful as her, although his critical damage reaches up to 150%. However, he could be ascended using experience pills and elemental shards, but it’s also just easier to unlock Nezha and get a better deal overall.

C-Tier Characters

Pagoda King

This is probably the best early game tank in Journey Renewed: Fate Fantasy. He won’t do much in PvP, where speed of movement is crucial, but he’ll be able to protect your team in the early missions quite well. But be sure to switch him for a better tank later on, such as Lord Erlang or even Zhu Bajie.

Star Lord Maori

Here’s one of the better early game supporter characters. His set of skills will help your team move through the first few chapters of the story, but you’ll quickly notice that his buffs aren’t on par with the rest of the supporter characters on this list.

Gao Cuilan

This supporter unit should be considered as an option only if you have Zhao Bajie in your team composition, with whom she synergizes the most. In all other cases, it’s better to skip this unit due to low skill efficiency and slow upgrades.

Whirlwind

If you’re looking to add an AoE damage dealer to your starter team, then check out Whirlwind in your gacha pulls. He won’t be too effective in PvP, but early PvE content may be manageable for him, especially since his attacks inflict a Knockback effect on enemies.

Tiger Immortal

Burst damage could be very useful in the early game, and that’s where Tiger Immortal shines. However, he strongly depends on the faction synergies, so if you can put him in the same team Lord Erlang, then Tiger Immortal could even help you ove through some midgam dungeons, such as “Journey Once More”, but not much beyond that point.

Lady Lightning

Dianmu, also known as Lady Lightning, has some very cool elemental AoE skills, but her physical stats are just too fragile to let her survive for too long. But you could put her in any electric-based team composition, where she’ll definitely improve its overall performance.

D-Tier Characters

Goat Immortal

A basic utility character, which can be used only at the initial stages of the game. Once you approach your first dungeon, be sure to switch it for a different unit.

Princess Wansheng

Lady Wansheng is a master of traps, but unfortunately this kind of strategy doesn’t translate too well in the turn-based combat of Journey Renewed: Fate Fantasy. She’s simply too RNG-dependent to be well utilized anywhere.

Earth Deity

The worst couple of characters in the game is Earth Deity. They have very limited mobility, low defenses, and lackluster damage, despite their environmental control abilities.
